Do I need a level or a studfinder?
It depends on the project. Properly used brackets allow the floor to take the load and fastening to a stud is not needed. If you are making a system where every shelf is parallel to each other a tape measure will work and a level is not necessarily.
Do the walls need to be made of sheetrock?
Most homes that were made in the last 30 years are made with sheetrock. If your home does not have sheetrock you will need to use wall anchors rated for plaster walls and the projects should be anchored to the floor.
Will the home center store cut the shelving for me?
The larger home center stores have saws on the selling floor used by their employees that are meant for customers just like you. If you are shopping in a local hardware store just ask.
Can the brackets be cut shorter?
BARRACUDA BRACKETS are approximately 8 inches long and are rated for shelving up to 14 inches deep. If you are making a project that has narrower shelving the brackets can be cut shorter to accommodate this.
Are wall anchors needed?
Yes, We recommend you use them. Some project are meant to be free standing, in that case no wall anchors will be used.
Can doors, closet rods, and drawers be added?
Large Home Centers sell cabinet doors and drawers in many styles that can be added to your project. They also sell closet rods if you are designing a closet.
Do I need a extended length drill tip?
Yes, we think your project will be easier to complete if you use an extended length insert bit of at least 2-3 inches.
Should I pre-drill the holes?
Depending on the shelving material you use and the experience of the installer. Natural wood works great without pre-drilling. If the installer has little experience with using an electric drill then pre-drilling holes is recommended.
